Hop, Skip, Jump and a Knockout

If you have been living in a cave the last few days and have not heard the news, it seems that Hillary Clinton will be annunced as the new Secretary of State and that she will accept. Of course she will have to be confirmed and during the weeks leading up to this hearing, Bill will more than likely be locked in a closet with Joe "Gaffetastic" Biden.

It has also been said by many of the talking heads that her experience as first lady would make her a great Secretary of State. I do not agree with that. I don't think while dining or dodging bullets that she sat down with people and said, "Stop the Nukes, or we are coming for you!" Maybe in her own mind she said this, but outloud no.

Choosing Hillary has gotten kudos from Henry Kissinger to Bill Clinton. But some of the people in Obamaland are not that thrilled. One Democrat close to Obama said, "These are people who believe in this stuff more than Barack himself does. These guys didn't put together a campaign in order to turn the government over to the Clintons."

The largest opposition is the Obama backers on the left of his own party. A lot of their motivation to support him was the fact they disliked the Clintons and wanted no more of them. To some the Clinton dynasty has come back to life with this choice. Apparently it will be cutting into Obamalot and we can't have that.

During the campaign David Ploufee and Robert Giggs developed a particular distaste for all things Clinton. These all filtered down through the campaign. I am not feeling the lovefest here.

For almost two years we saw Clinton and Obama attack each other and foreign policy was a hot topic. At the time the Iraq war was on the top of the agenda, but as things improved it moved down. But Obama was still considered by many to be weak in this department, so he looked for a number two person with foreign policy experience. So, he chose Gaffetastic. Ugh! It was also noted that Hillary would have issues with the vetting process because she had her baggage, Bill. So apparently Bill was too much baggage for VP, but not Secretary of State. Okay!

During some of the debates and the speeches, the hits came from both sides. They each told us that neither one of them was ready to be President. So now one is and the other could be Secretary of State. Hillary told us that she could answer that phone call at 3:00 while Obama snoozed through the night. But now all of a sudden (again) UNITY is in the air. Cue the music: Love is in the Air......

If Hillary is chosen as Secretary of State, how many heartbeats away from the presidency would she be?

  1. Vice President – currently Dick Cheney, soon to be Gaffetastic. This really would be the comedy hour. And then of course your taxes would be raised 100% to be patriotic.
  2. Speaker of the House of Representatives  – Nancy Pelosi. I would have to poke my eye out on this one. And then of course move to France.
  3. President por tempore of the Senate – Robert Byrd. Isn't this guy like 192. Scary thought here. I did forget where this one fell in line. This is too scary to even imagine.
  4. Secretary of State – currently Condoleezza Rice and soon it could be Hillary Clinton. So she is a lot closer than one would realize.

So, she is a hop, skip, jump and a knockout from the top! Closer than she could have imagined after she went down!

Again we see the Clintons popping up all over the place, from former staff members right on back to Hillary. We saw at the Democratic Convention, the Hill and Bill show. So, of course Obama had to go over the top and go to a stadium for his speech. Again, the Clintons keep coming back.

I would recommend the people ahead of her sleep with one eye open at all times. You never know what will happen and she is a Clinton. Do I believe that she will run again in 2012? Yes, I do. I think she will have her own agenda and I think there will be clashes with Obama if she becomes Secretary of State. I am looking forward to this hearing. As I said, this could be the best television coming to a tube near you.
