WTH....FBI

How nice, Obama goes to the FBI and the party begins!!

POTUS takes the stage at FBI headquarters – to the same kind of cheers he received at Langley. Mueller introducing him. (11:27 a.m.) Just wait until he stabs you guys in the back!

"We are always looking for talented special agents, but you are a wee bit past our age limit," Mueller jokes. "However, it is not too early for Sasha and Malia to start thinking about joining the FBI." Oh Mueller, I am losing respect here man!

Obama, putting on an FBI baseball cap, draws loud cheers. (11:30 a.m.) Take the hat off. You could not find your way out of a paper bag, let alone protect us from anything. By the way in case you noticed, we have some sort of flu outbreak thing going on. Put that in your hat and smoke it.

"I am grateful to the FBI for the t-shirts, for the teddy bear for the girls," Obama begins. Praises Mueller: "I appreciate him and I appreciate all of you." (11:35 a.m.) Teddy Bears? Say what?

SWOON! Obama pauses as someone falls down in the crowd. "Did somebody faint? Do we have a EMT here?" he asks. "Give him a little space...This happened all the time during my political campaign." And then he continues with a story about Teddy Roosevelt. (11:36 a.m.) Are you freaking kidding me? Oh how he loves himself.

KEY MESSAGE: "You protect us and you protect the civil liberties that we cherish," Obama says, praising the agency for upholding "that fundamental belief that we are committed both to our security and to the rule of law." (11:41 a.m.)
Unlike the evil CIA people who are running amuck with dunking people. Oh just wait until he finds something to stab them in the back with. Now lets all join hands and sing.

Hey Europe....Please Take Our Detainees...

On Sunday, our Attorney General, Holder has arrived in London. He is going to discuss with our European allies about taking some of the GITMO detainees, without having to plead too much. Holder will have meetings in London and Prague and then give a speech Wednesday night in Berlin about Guantanamo.

According to one German analyst, he feels Holders jobs is close to "mission impossible." No one is really stepping up to help out and take some of these detainees. Like really is this a big shock? No.

The goal to close Guantanmo is January 2010. The administration is edging toward taking some of the prisoners and more than likely locating them in Virginia. The group likely to go to Virginia is the Chinese Muslims known as the Uighurs. Their supporters feel they never should have been at GITMO in the first place.

Austria's interior minister, Maria Fekter, has insister her country would NOT TAKE any prisoners. "If the detainees are no longer dangerous, why don't they stay in the U.S?" Well Maria I am sure we are going to get more than we would like.

Now over there in Germany, they are asking themselves, "why America isn't taking care of its own business. If you started it, you ought to finish it." Wait, I thought once we closed this place everyone was going to love us and open their arms to take some of these detainees. Where is the love?

So right now they have about 240 inmates. As many as 60, if freed, cannot go back to their homelands because they could face abuse, imprisonment or death.

Several European nations, including Portugal and Lithuania, have said they will consider taking such detainees. Others are less interested and don't want their neighbors to accept any prisoners either, because of the ease of travel within the European Union.

Now some feel that we should release some prisoners in the U.S. as quickly as possible to generate good will. Good will to all.

There are 17 Uighurs held at Guantanamo. In recent weeks, officials reinterviewed them in preparaton for their eventual transfer. The government has cleared them for release, but insists it will not hand them over to China because they fear they will be tortured. Wait a minute, I thought they were getting the ugly treatment at GITMO. I mean that is what the MSM told us, right?

Holder told the Congress a few days before his trip that the "U.S. must lead by example." Releasing detainees U.S. soil is what the Europeans expect and what the Republicans fear he will do.

I am sure this story will continue to grow. I think the backlash will be more than they expected when they move them to Virginia.

Yo Ho Yo Ho....and some Guns....

In case you missed this....Yesterday an Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board, fended off a pirate attack. The pirates backed off the ship when the Israeli private security force the cruise line hired exchanged gun fire with the pirates. That's right, guns were drawn and used. And bullets flew.

The ship's commander told Italian radio that six men in a small white speed boat approached the Msc Melody and open fired "like crazy." But they retreated when the Israeli security officers aboard the cruise ship returned fire. The commander did say it felt like a war. According to the cruise line, they hire the Israelis because they are the best trained security agents.

The attack happened about 200 miles north of Seychelles and about 500 miles east of Somalia. Lt. Nathan Christensen, a spokesman for the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleeted, noted that the distance from the Somali coast was a sign of the pirates' increasing skill and a "definite shifting their tactical capabilities."

The exchange of fire between the pirates and the Melody was one of the first reported between pirates and a nonmilitary ship. Civilian shipping and passenger ships generally have avoided arming crewmen or hiring armed security for reasons of safety, liability, and compliance with the rules of the different countries where they dock.

It is not the first attack on a cruise liner. Back in December pirates opene fire on a U.S. operated ship carrying hundreds of tourists on a month long cruise from Rome to Singapore. The cruise liner was able to out run the pirates.

The Melody was on a 22 day cruise from Durban, South Africa to Genea, Italy when he pirates came up and opened fire next to the liner. The pirates did try to put a ladder on the side of the liner, but they were unable to climb it. The commander said that "when they saw our fire power....they left us and went away."

You're a Banker....No I'm Not!

Well, on Tuesday our "Only Man for the Job," who can't use Turbo Tax went before the the oversight committee on Capitol Hill. Apparently with not having to worry too much about the economy, there seemed to be some wasted minutes on Geithner's resume. A small sparring match began between Geithner and AFL-CIO Generel Counsel Damon Silvers took place.

"I've practiced law and you've been in banking." Silvers spoke.

"I've only been in public service," Geithner interrupted. Then Silvers chimed back, "a long time ago." And then Tim jumped in and said, "NEVER!"

Silvers then attempted another try, "Investment banking, I meant."

Geithner threw back, "Never investment banking.

Before the back and forth could continue, Silvers red dot went on and he no more time left. Not to be left hanging, former Senator John Sununi began, "I'd never confuse you for an investment banker."

Geithner got in the last words, "I don't think you meant that as a compliment, but I'll take it as a compliment."

Wow – who could think there could be fraud going on with TARP and TALF and all of those other fun things, but we need to review the resume of Turbo Tax Tim. For the record, Geithner has worked in the public sector for just about all of his career, serving in the Trearsury Department across three administrations, working fo rthe IMF and his most recent job as head of the Federal Reserve of Bank of New York. So maybe Silvers meant that Geithner had been a central banker? Who knows.....And if you have your decoder ring out, it apparently says that just because you were head of the Federal Reserve of Bank of New York, you are in no way shape or form a banker, just a guy who can't figure out Turbo Tax to save his life. Hmmm...you decide.

Got ZZZZZZ's

And the sleep goes on.....

"Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace called President Barack Obama’s top economic adviser, Lawrence Summers, on the carpet for snoozing during several high-level meetings, including a recent White House meeting with credit card executives.

“Do you find the president’s speeches less than compelling, sir?” Wallace asked.

“President Obama wants us all to fulfill our American dreams, and I guess I was starting that day,” Summers said sheepishly.

“You’ve been a serial dozer…Are you not getting enough sleep, sir?” Wallace pressed.

“We’re all working very hard in this administration, Chris, because we want to support the president in what is a tremendous responsibility that he has to get this economy growing again,” Summers said, adding
that he’s been ribbed by the president about his nap habit.

“We’ve all joked about American dreams in various ways.”

The Blitz is On....

Apparently, VP Gaffe Master is on a TV blitz. I for one have obviously missed this. But, mark your calendars just in case you want to see it coming at you.

Biden will continue his TV blitz Monday morning with a sit down on Good Morning America, his first appearance as vice president on a morning show. Sunday evening, he'll be on "60 Minutes," where he is expected to discuss the administration's first 100 days.

Another Czar is Born...Again

And we are off... On Tuesday night, VP Gaffetastic, excuse me Biden was speaking to the Motion Picture Association. During his speech, he promised some things to the folks, more federal resources to police and prosecute intellectual property, including....wait for it....an "Intellectual Property Czar." Yes, another Czar is born.

The White House insists that they will find the "right person for the job" for the czar. No word on whether this person will have paid their taxes or not, but they "will be the right person for the job."

He even joked to get into the movie spirit. Yipeee! Biden compared the Obama administration to one of his favorite movies, "Chariots of Fire." That's right, he did. Biden recalled the scene where one of the runners tells his wife, "I can't be nominated, I did not pay my taxes." Okay that scene never happened, but hey, I had to throw that in.

The scene he referred to was where the runner tells his wife, "I can't win, I won't run," and the wife replies, "If you don't run, you can't win." And then the vice president stated that is the motto for this entire administration. Wait, I thought it was "hope, change, and yes we can."

So another czar is born! Yeah!

And Away We Go....

In case you missed it, yesterday Mayor Newsome of San Francisco announced that he is running for Governor of the state of California. I could yell out, "Help us all." But I really do not believe that will do anything. So, excuse me while I silently scream.

Good old Gavin is getting some help from "Twitter!" Super!

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom (D)
announced Tuesday he’s running for governor of California, and took to Twitter to ask supporters to spread the word.

Newsom tweeted via text message:

It’s official- running for Gov of CA. Wanted you to be the first to know. Need your help. Check out video: http://tr.im/iOCN and ReTweet

By asking followers to “retweet” the message, Newsom has gotten to one of the core uses of Twitter for politicians. The San Francisco Mayor’s almost 275,000 Twitter followers can help make Newsom’s announcement go viral in a matter of moments.

For a politician, that’s a powerful tool.

And of course, Michelle Obama and the Bidens.

No word on whether cocktails will be served!

Hee!Hee!

Really, this can't be happening. Stop the madness before I pull all of my hair out. Is this really necessary? I think not.

CNN is marking President Barack Obama's 100th day in office with prime-time coverage that will recall election nights last year. John King is even bringing back the "magic wall." Oh, not again with that thing. Are they going to have a hologram again too?

The network says it will compile a national report card of Obama's performance, using opinion polls and a series of viewer surveys. I can hardly wait to see this report card. Oh super, lovely, grade "A"/100%, slobber, slobber.

The big night is a week from this Wednesday, pre-empting regular programming. Say what? Are you kidding me?

Most of the commentators and CNN regulars who appeared during primary nights and the general election will be there. King's giant touch screen will be adapted to track where stimulus money is going. Where the money is going? Oh yeah right!

ABC says it will observe the day with stories on all its broadcasts. Well, isn't that special? How about, "hello and welcome to our show, it is day 100 and we are $90 trillion/million/gazillion in debt. Thanks and have a good night ya all!"

Other networks haven't announced their plans yet. Oh PARTY!!!!

To the CIA...He Goes...

Amid the furor over the release of the torture memos, Obama heads to Langley for private meetings, and then delivers "a public message to the [CIA] workforce about the importance of CIA's mission to our national security."

Oh Please...NO Cameras

Well, here we go, Tuesday is the day. Mark your calendar, because Tuesday is coming and oh the joy! And we're off. On Tuesday, Elizabeth Warren, the woman overseeing trillions in financial funds, you know that TARP thing, is going to bring the man, the myth, the legend, I have no clue Geithner before her panel. Watch out Turbo Tax.....Tim.

Drum roll please...Geithner is going to discuss the Treasury Department's financial rescue strategy, goals and metrics. Now apparently the Treasury Department has been ditching Ms. Warren and her panel for months, but Tim plans to come to the panel on Tuesday.

Great, I can hardly wait. I have a plan, but it's so good, I can't discuss the plan. Details, we don't need no stinking details. TARP 3-89 ready to go. And then we can move forward with TARP 90-1000. We should be so broke by then, everyone will have their own printing press. Yipeee! By the way we need to spend. We inherited all of this stuff, we need to spend.

I hope this is not televised and if it is, oh DOW Jones, don't look!!!

And the Trial Begins....

In case you missed it or were not paying attention or maybe worried about the economy or something like that a trial begins tomorrow against the Army Corps of Engineers and whether or not they owe residents and businesses damages because of the massive flooding during Hurricane Katrina....
Arguments are set to begin Monday in the trial, which will be heard and decided by a judge, not a jury. And much is at stake: If the five residents and one business in this initial lawsuit are victorious, more than 120,000 other individuals, businesses and government entities could have a better shot at claiming billions of dollars in damages.

The residents argue the corps' poor maintenance of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet, a shipping channel dug in the 1960s as a short-cut between the Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans, led to the wipeout of St. Bernard Parish and the city's Lower Ninth Ward when Katrina struck in August 2005. They are asking for damages between $300,000 and $400,000 for each individual. Say what? I am sorry, but you have got to be kidding me here.

The corps has argued that it is immune from liability because the channel is part of New Orleans' flood control system, but the judge has allowed the case to move forward because residents claim the shipping channel was a navigation project. WTH!

One of the residents suing, 75-year-old Lucille Franz, lost her home in the Lower 9th Ward. "I've been through a lot," she said. Her sister drowned at St. Rita's nursing home in St. Bernard near the MRGO, also known as "Mister Go."

"They are responsible," she said of the corps. "We wouldn't have had that kind of water if it hadn't been for the MRGO." I guess living below sea level and in a giant fish bowl did not have anything to do with it or that pesky large hurricane that came through.

The four-week trial will explore in detail the natural history, engineering and politics of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet.

The outlet was authorized in 1958 by Congress. The route went through largely pristine wilderness of marsh and swamp forest southeast of New Orleans. Scientists say its construction destroyed about 18,000 acres of marsh and 1,500 acres of cypress swamps. The economic benefits never paid off, and few ships used it before Katrina. After the channel was built, larger vessels continued to use the Mississippi River because a bigger lock to the MRGO was never built.

The corps has acknowledged the area's flood risk, and is in the process of closing the MRGO with rocks. The corps is also building a $1.3 billion floodgate.

"It's really something the people of St. Bernard and the Lower 9th Ward, and New Orleans East, everybody in that area, have needed for a long time. What happened there should not happen in the United States of America," said plaintiffs' attorney John Andry. "It's the largest preventable catastrophe in American history." I was going to say WTH, but WTF is better. Excuse me, you live below sea level. There was this freaking huge hurricane.

The Department of Justice is defending the corps, but lawyers declined to comment. In court documents, the government has argued that Katrina's massive storm surge, not the MRGO, caused the catastrophic flood.

"The only way in which the catastrophic flooding of the Lower Ninth Ward, St. Bernard, and New Orleans East could have been avoided would have been through the construction of a better hurricane protection system," the government argues.

For decades, the corps has invoked immunity from lawsuits over flooding -- granted by the Flood Control Act of 1928 -- and maintained it has a good track record of carrying out Congressional mandates.

In this case, the plaintiffs have a glimmer of hope because U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval has ruled the corps can be held liable for flooding caused by the MRGO. By contrast, Duval threw out a similar suit in January 2008 over flooding caused by broken floodwalls closer to the city park and downtown New Orleans, ruling the corps was immune.

"The claims are not new, nor is the defense new, but their application is novel in two ways: One, the size of the stakes and, two, the amount of the alleged negligence and malfeasance," said Oliver Houck, environmental law professor at Tulane University.

The outcome of the trial may pivot on technical arguments. The plaintiffs say the MRGO -- and all the erosion it caused -- allowed Katrina's waves to destroy the levees and floodwalls. Not that big storm surge. Good thing that had nothing to do with it. This suit should be thrown out.

"It was nothing but a city killer," said G. Paul Kemp, a coastal scientist.

What Say You AL?

Oh great now we have another word to use, "misstated." Oh and lets not forget, "poor records....."

The Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network have been slapped with a record $285,000 fine for violating a slew of federal election rules during his 2004 bid for president, the New York Post has learned.

In a decision to be made public next month, the Federal Election Commission found that Sharpton's Democratic primary campaign accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions from private sources.

It also "kept poor records of its activities and expenditures" and commingled funds with Sharpton's civil-rights group. All are prohibited under the Federal Election Campaign Act.

Earlier this month, Sharpton and former campaign manager Andrew Rivera signed an agreement with the FEC to pay the fine -- among the highest in the regulatory body's 34-year history.

"Sharpton 2004 materially misstated its receipts and disbursements, as well as cash on hand in 2004," says the April 8 FEC report, which followed an investigation of the Sharpton campaign's expenses.

The review followed a 2004 complaint to the FEC from the National Legal and Policy Center, a Virginia-based watchdog group.

What Say You Chris?

Someone must have given Chris the wrong Wheaties this morning...

“Hardball” host Chris Matthews bandaged his bleeding heart on the MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program Friday, delivering a blistering critique of the Obama administration’s diplomatic overtures to Cuba.

“I just am not a Castro fan,” Matthews told host Joe Scarborough when asked about the administration’s “historic” opening to Cuba with the easing of travel restrictions.

“He bought the wrong ticket,” Matthews said of Castro. “He bet on Communism. He bet on the Soviet Union. If that side had won, he’d be marching down 5th Avenue overseeing the executions in Central Park. He made the wrong decision -- morally, historically, whatever. He’s on the wrong side of history. He ought to pay for it.”

One reason Matthews cited for his strong feelings: Cuba’s possible involvement in Lee Harvey Oswald’s assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

“They had something to do perhaps in knocking our guy off,” Matthews said, referring to Kennedy. “So I don’t really want to help Castro. I hope he dies a Communist, ends up that way. I don’t want to lift a finger to help that guy, or his brother.

“So I am not on the side of the people who say, ‘Let’s all be friends together.’ Eventually this guy will play out his hand, he’ll be dead, and Raul Castro hopefully will be dead, too. I don’t want to engage in any way that salutes the Cuban Revolution at all. They’re on the other side of history.”

Matthews called the Cold War “a good war,” adding “I think we were on the right side.”

“I think the captive nations were truly captive, and the people who captured them were the bad guys,” he told Scarborough and co-host Mika Brzezinski. “When Castro took office down there how many people got the firing squad right after he got in? What, 600 people? Look, he’s the bad guy.”

“Look,” Brzezinski broke in, perhaps nervous that Matthews might be straying from Obama administration talking points. “I don’t deny that and I don’t think any of us do . . .”

“Some do!” Matthews interjected.

“Well, I guess my question would be: Do we wait for them to die in order to move on, or is it promising, some of the dialog that we’re seeing now?” Brzezinski said.

“I’d rather get the victory lap in,” Matthews said, suggesting engagement is a bad idea. “I think Castro was a bad guy, okay? He doesn’t like America. He may like baseball, he doesn’t like us.

“And just remember, think it through,” Matthews said. “I always like to take the opportunity to [consider] the trail we didn’t go. If we’d lost the Cold War, who would have been there, triumphantly over us? You think [Castro] would have given you a break, Joe? Just guessing Joe, but you might have been on the list.”
